About Roots Historical Arts Council
About us
Rooted in History. Growing Through Arts.
We believe stories shape communities. For over two decades, the Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council has worked to preserve cultural heritage and create space for new voices to rise. Our programs celebrate history, inspire creativity, and connect generations through music, art, and education.
The Lubbock Roots Historical Arts Council was founded to honor the legacy of African American culture in West Texas, while building opportunities for artists of every background. From the annual Roots Music Festival to art exhibits, workshops, and community events, our mission is to ensure that culture is not only preserved but lived and experienced by all.

We are committed to education as much as celebration. By offering scholarships, mentorship, and youth programs, we give the next generation tools to grow their talents while staying connected to the stories that came before them. Our work thrives because of partnerships—with schools, local organizations, and neighbors who believe that culture is a shared resource. Together, we keep our roots strong.
